Presenting you the all-new Reproduced 1849 original Staunton pattern chess set in genuine ebony wood and boxwood. Hand-crafted with precision and care, 1849 brings vintage experience to the masses. This chess set has been specifically designed for chess tournament/club players. The set features a Tournament standard 3.75" King with a base diameter of 1.61 inches. This chess set is expertly weighted from our master artisans and it's superb size proportioning from a king to pawn make this chess set an excellent choice for fast chess games in tournaments/clubs or regular home and school play. The set comes with free extra queens for effortless pawn promotion. Pieces have unique rings and thick green felts, which precisely envelops the base of each chessmen for smooth movement on the chess board. The Knights are well-reproduced and represent the highest grade of knight carving skills that our Indian artisans have to offer.

The dark chess pieces are made of ebony wood. It would be difficult to find a more sumptuous wood than ebony wood for the dark side chess pieces. The texture of the ebony wood is fine and a true pleasure to hold. The deep luster and total blackness of the ebony wood are exceptional. The opposing pieces are made of boxwood. Boxwood is one of the fairly easy woods to work with and shows off aesthetic detail. The knights are well-crafted and exhibit the sky-high level of knight carving skills that our Indian artisans have to offer.

Craftsmanship: Each piece is meticulously hand carved from the finest grade wood. The set is entirely handmade in India and weighted for prodigious hand-feel and a very nice thud on the wooden chess board. All chess pieces have a wide base which adds another interesting dimension to the set. Each chessmen is carefully handcrafted in India with dainty details. Uniformity of pieces: The shapes of turned pieces are guided by metal profiles and so all turned pieces are identical, especially the pawns. You can expect some variation where hand carving or cutting comes i.e. knights.

Weights: The set is heavily weighted with lead and so they are a pleasure to hold and will last for years if maintained properly in a dry and clean place.

Felts: Thick green felt precisely envelops the base of each chessmen.

Wooden Chess Board

This beautiful Board is made of Ebony Wood on the darker side and box wood on the lighter side. This sale is for the chessboard and the chess pieces. The underside of the board is felted with green velvet.

The size of the Board is 21" x 21" (53.34 cm x 53.34 cm) with square size of 2.2" x 2.2" (55 mm x 55 mm). The Board is 22 mm thick.
